In Harinagar village of Jaitpur, Delhi, heavy rainfall led to the collapse of a boundary wall on Thursday, burying eight people underneath. Among them were two children. Sadly, seven people, including three young girls, lost their lives in the incident.
Preliminary reports identify the victims as 8-year-old Raveena, 8-year-old Haseena, 7-year-old Ruksana, 30-year-old Obiyul, 40-year-old Mutajli, 26-year-old Shafiquil, and 25-year-old Doli.
All of them worked as ragpickers and were originally from Bardhaman district in West Bengal. Small shanties had been built near the wall inside the plot, and when the structure gave way, the debris crashed down on these makeshift homes.
